Supported Housing
Supported housing is accommodation with support to enable people who may find it hard coping on their own to live as independently as possible in the community. This accommodation is provided in specific schemes where people can stay for a short or much longer period of time.
There are many reasons why people may need supported housing, they could be: young, elderly, homeless, at risk of domestic violence or have a physical, sensory or learning disability, or have a drug or alcohol dependency
There is a range of supported housing options available across Somerset. However, it does not usually include personal care, such as bathing and dressing.
Support is given by supported on-site staff or by staff that visit the scheme each day. The type of support depends on the individuals needs but can include help to:
• Claim benefits
• Access services such as health and community care services
• Take up day time activities, training, education and employment
• Develop independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking and cleaning
